Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III)

Description

The Iowa State University Library is seeking a Web Services and UX Technical Lead (Web Developer III) to provide technical leadership and support for the Library’s web platforms.

This position is a hands-on role focused on front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript) and user experience across the Library’s web ecosystem, including Drupal, vendor-hosted platforms, and custom applications.

The successful candidate will:
    •    Lead and mentor web development staff and student employees
    •    Drive accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA, Title II)
    •    Develop and maintain responsive, standards-compliant interfaces
    •    Guide UX improvements with testing, analytics, and audits
    •    Establish and maintain design systems and reusable frameworks
    •    Collaborate with campus IT, vendors, and library stakeholders

Required:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
    •    Demonstrated expertise in front-end development (HTML, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript)
    •    Applied knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)
    •    Experience creating or maintaining design systems, reusable components, or theming frameworks
    •    Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or supervision for web development staff or projects
    •    Experience with version control and CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub, Azure)
    •    Experience in higher education, libraries, or other complex organizations with multiple stakeholders

Appointment:
12-month, full-time, Professional & Scientific, Pay Grade PS811.
